Avani Brandt, a recent Stanford graduate, left a lasting legacy on the Cardinal women’s soccer program. As a reliable force on the backline, she played alongside world-class center back Naomi Girma, helping anchor a defense that consistently ranked among the nation’s best. Over her four years, Brandt contributed to an average of 11.75 shutouts per season, led the team to a Pac-12 Championship, and made 2 College Cup appearances.  Her individual accolades include selections to the Pac-12 All-Freshman Team and the ACC All-Academic Team, a testament to both her athletic prowess and academic excellence.  

Now, Brandt is taking the next step in her soccer journey. She’ll spend the summer playing with KC Current II, the second team for the KC Current, in the NWSL. KC Current plays at CPKC Stadium, the world’s first purpose-built stadium for a women’s sports team. Brandt earned a spot on the roster for TST (The Soccer Tournament), a high-stakes, winner-take-all competition in Cary, NC, with a $1 million prize on the line.  Avani joined Sports & SHEnanigans to share her soccer story—from her Stanford days to preparing to go pro—as well as the inspirational women who have fueled her journey and her excitement for what’s next.
